A. The first step is preparation. All areas that are to be liquid limestone should be clear of any vegetation and paving. The surface needs to be dug out to minus two brick courses below the finished floor level of the house or building (Distinctive Limestone can arrange this for you).
Once the ground is prepared, we place the form boards around the area where the limestone will be placed.
Next, we compact and rule off the area to the correct height levels allowing for water runoff.
Then we mix the limestone concrete onsite in our agitators. We use a larger aggregate which creates a stronger limestone concrete. The liquid limestone then gets poured and gets screeded off. The area is then bull-floated to smooth the concrete.
As the limestone is hardening, we cut expansion joints into every three metre squares to give the impression of large three metre slabs.
Next we make random stone patterns with cut joints. All limestone squares are then flat-rubbed as they set. The surface is again scratched off which brings out the real limestone colour, natural look and texture.
